Private Public Collaboration to Deliver Europe’s Largest Tree Adventure Activity Park in Guildford

An artists impression of what Guildford’s Wild Wood Adventure is to look like. Work starts in January.

Craggy Island Ltd and Guildford Borough Council have agreed a lease for Peacock Wood in Stoke Park., Guildford, Surrey. The lease will allow the company to build and operate the largest tree top adventure activity park ever built in the UK all within the woods at the north end of Stoke Park.

This ambitious project has been 3 years in the planning stages, since the directors of Craggy Island (Guildford’s indoor climbing super centre), first approached the Parks and Leisure department at GBC with their initial ideas for Wild Wood Adventure. This coincided with GBC’s own plans to reinvigorate the park and to create a leisure hub near the town centre, the park already hosts Guildford Spectrum and the Lido.

The construction phase is set to start during early January 2014 and carry on through to the end of March with the aim to be operational before the Easter school holidays.

Wild Wood Adventure will consist of 2 junior circuits at lower levels and 2 Adult courses at higher levels throughout the woods. These will include everything from simple wobbly bridges to extreme challenges set high in the tree tops – with easy options for those who aren’t quite as brave as they thought they were! All will be accessed from the 15 metre central tower which will also offer a number of options to reach the ground via either giant dual zip wires (to race your friends), the free fall descender or the stairs!

In addition to the treetop courses Wild Wood Adventure will also have a 12 metre climbing tower and team building activities including Jacobs ladder, trapeze, crate stacks, abseiling and more which will be available for corporate, school and group bookings throughout the year. Fresh coffee and snacks will also be available from the new reception kiosk being built adjacent to the bowling greens and the new parking area.

CHARITY FORMED BY EX SPECIAL FORCES VETERANS SEEKING RETAIL TRADE ENQUIRIES FOR FIRST CHARITY FLAPJACK

Image

Pilgrim Bandits, the charity formed by ex-special forces veterans, that pushes injured service men and women ‘always a little further’ has launched its own range of Charity Bar flapjacks.

The bold move is the brain child of one of the Charity’s trustees, a full time police Sargent,  who worked tirelessly on the project in his spare time.   Sargent Isherwood said “I wanted to create a product that would deliver a return for the Charity for years to come.  Our hope is to sell them through our area fundraisers but also to break into the grocery and hospitality trades.”

The Charity Bar is believed to be the first of its kind and is proving popular with early orders from sports clubs, pubs and independent high street stores.  The new Charity Bars can be ordered via www.pilgrimbandits.org for a box of 25 bars in a choice of 3 flavours; original, bakewell and fudge.  Mixed boxes are also available.  Suggested retail prices are from £1.00 for a large 110g bar.  Trade enquiries are welcome too on admin@pilgrimbandits.org.

Pilgrim Bandits’ patrons include Duncan Bannatyne OBE and Ben Parkinson MBE.  The charity challenges amputees from all the forces by pulling together extremely arduous expeditions and then sharing their experiences with underprivileged children and young people.

Visit www.pilgrimbandits.org for more information or join the charity of Facebook at pilgrimbandits charity.

The Award for Community Contribution of the Year was won for the company’s commitment to its comprehensive apprenticeship programme and for its longstanding relationships and donations to schools, a hospice and other charities supporting young people in the Derbyshire area.

The Award for Business Personality of the Year went to the Managing Director of Franke Sissons, Andy Dukelow.  Nominated by his team at the company, Andy is a driving force who has been with Franke Sissons for just over 30 years.  He joined as an apprentice himself and is well known for his beliefs in the benefits of on-the-job training and youth sport.
